Krikey Dan -- “equally jaunty and creaky” and sad and glad that summer’s over. That’s me. Thank you.

Thanks, my man! (Oh, btw my gf wanted me to tell that she is obsessed with your show!)

Tell her thanks for watching! Also, let her know we have a new one coming which, if she loves Virgin River she will also love. It’s Sullivan’s Crossing and it premiers on your local CW station on October 4. We feel it’s the show that Virgin River was supposed to be (before Netflix fucked it up).

Psychedelic Kinks songs...  « Creeping Jean »?, « Death of a Clown »? « King King »? « Lazy Old Sun »?, « Sitting by the riverside? » well I guess that’s five. Am I missing any?

Hmmm, I'm not sure I would have included "King Kong" - which always sounded more like T. Rex to me - but the other four definitely fit the bill to my ears!

I tried. 😂

Hey, that’s 5 if you include “Autumn Almanac”!

I’m sure there are more that would fit the category. Maybe retroactive psych as in Lola Vs. the Powerman that has songs that fit the criteria. Oh, wait, “Shangri La” does take you on a journey from right there in your rocking chair!! I’d say that’s pretty darn trippy!! The chorus all of a sudden places you in a gigantic airplane hangar sized vault that makes you feel minuscule! For me, at least...

Good point, though I was thinking more overtly psychedelic, with sonic elements that would make even the first-time listener go, "WHOA, maaaan..."

...and I was also thinking that fall=UK 60’s psychedelia! I think it has a lot to do with the back cover of The Rolling Stones Big Hits (High Tide and Green grass). They’re all standing on an embankment that looks a lot like the swampy shortcut I used to take to get home from school, especially around when I was in first grade, when I would come home from school and muse over the pile of Rolling Stones records!

I wouldn't be surprised if that Stones cover subsconsciously influenced my own fall/UK psych connection, as well!

Album covers-Early imprints. Early memories. Early associations. A whole new stack to explore!

The Kinks’ Village Green cover pics, too - they were probably actually taken in the late summer, but hey they were wearing sweaters! 😝

I had this sense of déjà-vu when I was reading @criticalconditions stack that talked in length about the Stones album cover for TSMR. It reminded me a lot of this Sesame Street Segment. https://youtu.be/9GOqM18Bhhg?si=RUYdqIZOhWQx0ubk again, early associations. I saw this around the same time I scrutinized every stones album cover!

Ray could have been a comfortable midwestern guy with a garage fridge full of cheap beer and a folding chair on the stoop to watch the day recede on his street

One of my favorite Kinks tunes, and one that shows Ray Davies as a songwriter had the unique ability to be optimistic and bleak at the same time.
