Not being much of a “thorough” Steely Dan aficionado, I’d never heard that they’d pilfered on Rikki from Horace Silver. Did Fagen & Becker ever comment on it?
If a father/daughter selection is allowed, ‘My Pa’ by Barbra Streisand from the album ‘My Name is Barbra’ (my favorite!). Not avant-garde but not maudlin either!
You may find it interesting (Lord knows it's hard to find one who does!) to know that I used to sing "Piece of Sky" in karaoke less than a decade ago! Now, while I've sung a lot professionally, and have a decent Sting-like range (without pitch adjustment!), I was curious to see how I could manipulate the pitch-altering function with the KJ at the particular bar I frequented.
Turns out, I had to RAISE the pitch about 2-3 steps (told the KJ to make that mechanical adjustment on his controls). Why raise a pitch already too high? Because I'd be lowering Babs' key one octave anyway!
So, MY lower octave, when forced to sing at a higher pitch would end up putting my money note (at the end) at about the top of my comfortable range, but at an octave lower than La Streisand! It was fun, nevertheless, and pretty well left the crowd slack-jawed!
Well, bless your heart (I'm in Texas!), Barbara! I was just fascinated by the fact we could do that during karaoke. Plus, I got bored singing just half the songlist binder. Once I discovered how to alter the pitch and key on the KJ's machine, it opened up the entire catalog of possible songs........even the ladies! Heck, we had all the gals singing the dood songs, like "Don't Stop Believin'", etc! Why should my metaphoric nose be pressed against the no less metaphoric glass?
First of all sugar (Georgia, North Carolina, Virginia; transplanted to Cape Cod), I hope you’re living in an enlightened part of Texas.😁
Second, I’m so impressed you figured it out! I love karaoke. I’ve been singing my whole life, church choirs, school and community choruses; plus a few musicals. I have a great memory for lyrics and drive people crazy by unexpectedly bursting into song.😂
Yo Dan. Hello from happy dad-land and thanks for the dedication. I’m especially glad, if not to say relieved that you said nothing about the scurrilous rumors about me and Tina Turner. ❤️🎸
I was hoping to find Cat Stevens’ FATHER to SON ( or is it Father AND Son?). One of my favorite Parent-Child relationship songs. Add to your list for next time?
Virtually unfamiliar with all, Dan! Oh, I knew the artists, just not their particular Dad songs, save for the The Temps! Nice selection! The only Dad song that came to my mind was Genesis' "No Son of Mine," but I guess that wouldn't have been fitting for the celebratory tone you were setting! See why I didn't even attempt a Dad Playlist! You hit it out da park!
If you hadn't included Papa was a Rolling Stone, I would have left. I don't know the Stewart rumor so looking forward to reading!

I believe they were always somewhat cagey about it…
Good list. I would add “Your Dad Did,” by John Hiatt.

Totally allowed - see the Dolly Parton selection above!
I did and then totally forgot!🤦♀️
And, who can forget "Papa Can You Hear Me? Better stop before I have a "Yentl" breakdown.😁
I thought of that; didn’t want to bombard with too much Streisand! I know, I know, you can’t have too much Streisand!😂

I’m sure they thought you were terrific, never realizing your painstaking technique behind the voice! See, I AM interested.😁

Anyway I appreciate anyone who can sing.❤️

Your secrets are safe with me, man!

Not a favorite of mine - but lotsa folks dig that one!
Queen II is so underappreciated. Ogre Battle is still jarring to hear

A perfect salve for Roman jet lag. Great read. Abbondanza!
Enjoy your trip, my man! I am so happy for you - and also extremely jealous!
