Sweet! I wish you could've talked to him as long as Lemmy. I dig Ronnie, I was briefly in the "Sabbath Rules, Ozzy Drools" camp in high school, discovered those Ronnie Rainbow albums in college which slayed me, saw him on the "Sacred Heart" tour, sort of, sadly Vivian Campbell had left and Craig Goldie in(no offense Craig) but Bain and Vinnie were still there, still great, save for the dragon slaying bit. So cool you saw the "Dehumanizer" tour, that was one of the last albums I bought on cassette, still trying to avoid the cd thing, strange how under the radar that one is, so much better than most other metal of the day.
Great stuff.I saw him at Poplar Creek in August of '84.Twisted Sister opened when they were ruling the world.Dio had all the Egyptian stuff before Iron Maiden.Viv Campbell had a laser outlined guitar.Great night.
Wow, that sounds like a blast! And funny you should mention the Egyptian stuff — I have a vague memory of Dio beefing publicly with Iron Maiden over who stole what from who.
For the record, Dio's Last in Line LP — the one with "Egypt (The Chains are On)" — came out in July '84, two months before Maiden's Powerslave, though Maiden were using the Egyptian motif onstage beginning that August... and as their stage set and album cover required advanced planning, they would surely have had to come up with their own concept before Dio's record came out. I think it was just great metal minds thinking alike!
I went to Dio's funeral, Dan. Well actually I hung out in the cemetery outside of the church with the rest of the rabble....but it still counts!
Yes it does! Glad you were able to pay your respects.

Yeah, that could have been a fascinating conversation, especially if we'd gotten into all the records he made in the sixties!
Yes, doo- woppin' Ronnie!
Was his last name pronounced DEE-o or DIE-o?
DEE-o
Thank you.

He was a bad person and so was his crew.

Oh my god, Lori, that is absolutely horrifying. I'm so sorry.
