I saw BNB at a drive in theater Down River. I think it was the opener for a double feature with the James Bond classic Live & Let Die (which released in ’73, so I may be mistaken).

Coincidentally, we were in a van with shag carpet! Was the Chevy van the 1976 standard mode of transportation for Michiganders?!?

I was in awe of Tatum O’Neal. She became my role model. A tough-talking chick who could hang with the boys— and the most talented. Many argue that “Kelly” was the star player, but Tatum’s “Amanda” was the one who carried the team through the season, despite injuries, while Kelly’s ego kept him from fully committing. It fit perfectly with my Tom boy personality. And their foul language and rebelliousness was too relatable. The BNB anthem “Carmen” still brings a smile to my face. Thank you for digging up the memory. https://youtu.be/xSQxtMWJzGQ?si=3kRvU46kWX3lONFs

Hahaha - how great that you were in a shag carpeted Chevy van, too! Truth be told, that was the only custom van I ever rode in back in seventies Michigan; all the other families I knew either had Ford station wagons with the fake wood paneling, or imported cars (we had an early Saab station wagon before getting on the Toyota train). But Tim’s family’s van was also the first place I ever heard “Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald,” so it’s burned into my brain like an Amanda Wuhrlitzer beanball.

The music! Eight-track tapes scattered across the semi-circle dash board. My favorites: Carly Simon’s “No Secrets” and Seals & Croft’s “Diamond Girl.”

The idea of a framed photo of a gorilla on someone’s desk made me chuckle too 😆
