Happy Monday, Jagged Time Lapse readers!
Well, if I had any doubts regarding the reach of this particular medium, this past weekend has totally rid me of them. Brad Kyle (he of the great Front Row & Backstage Substack, which you should totally check out if you haven’t already) recommended my post on the legacy of Cynthia Weil, which was then picked up and promoted on Saturday by Substack Reads — and BOOM, I now have nearly 500 new subscribers! Thank you, Brad, thank you Substack Reads, and thank you to everyone who has chosen to follow Jagged Time Lapse as a result. In the immortal words of Donna Summer, I feel love!
As I mentioned in the intro of this past Friday’s Astrud Gilberto post, it’s probably gonna be another few days until I can drop another really substantial post here at JTL. So please make yourselves comfy, and in the meantime check out the Jagged Time Lapse Archive, where I’m sure you’ll find plenty of stuff to interest and amuse you.
When I started this Substack back in August 2022, my goal was to amplify my wide-ranging musical obsessions, and to have a place where I could share various interviews and musical experiences from my many decades as a journalist and fan. Those latter posts — which range from my magical morning with Donovan to a previously unpublished interview with Angus Young of AC/DC, to vivid flashbacks to the first concert I ever paid my own money to attend and the first used record store I ever visited — are primarily reserved for my paid subscribers, which I hope some of you newly-arriving folks will consider becoming.
For a mere five bucks a month (or even less, should you opt for the $50/year subscription plan), you will receive access to all of these posts that already reside in the JTL archives, as well as all future “paid subscribers only” posts. I think that’s a pretty solid deal, and I’m hoping you’ll be sufficiently entertained and educated by my content to agree; because anything that lands in the JTL tip jar not only supports the creation of those “paid subscribers” posts, but it also enables me to post all the cool free stuff I share here as well…
Anyway, that’s the sales pitch — now, let’s boogie! I’ll see y’all again later this week!
Thank you for the history lesson. I love how the column is named after a song. I am using song titles for a lot to title my posts. This was a great write.
I loved hearing many of these songs for the first time, but I was particularly intrigued by the one by The Move, a group that I’d never heard of before, so of course, I got on Wikipedia as I’m won’t to do to find out more about them. And lo and behold, I find the connection between them and ELO, one of my favorites! I subscribed then and there. Thanks for the great article!
