Awesome stuff, Dan. "Mama Told Me Not to Come" by Three Dog Night is one of my favorite songs. With my bro, I saw a Dec 2021 concert by their latest lineup in Waukegan IL and, believe me, it was an apt song for the outing.

Hahaha! I dig the Randy Newman and Wilson Pickett versions of that song, but I've never been down with "The Dog"...

I’ll go with this one. I heard it again yesterday, and it “floored me”, AGAIN!

Ever heard Barbra Streisand's version? That one's... interesting.

Wow! I never even knew that existed...thanks. Always like Babs’ early 70’s look with that hat she was sporting back then.

Your sure looked like a gangsta’ in the making in that picture, but underneath that killa’ exterior, you were always the tender-hearted guy you are today. You never fooled anyone. Happy Mother’s Day. 💐

Tears!! My mom is long gone from this world, but remembered and loved. Your mom is long gone from Chitown, yet still remembered and loved, as well. And, loved that picture at the beginning. Never knew there was a long version of the Intruders!! Such a great song.

I know he gets a lot of knocks for being so, well, Lenny, and for his derivative AF oeuvre, but I still love Always On the Run off the aptly titled Mama Said album. Killer hook and fat groove. Featuring another mama's boy, Slash, with a great guitar solo.

Very disappointed Tupac's "dear momma" isn't on this list. SHAME! Haha. But still a nice list.

Dude. Lenny Kravitz (and Slash), “Mama Said”. One of the greatest jams of all time.

Oops I meant “Always on the Run” as my fellow commenter DBE said. I was in such a hurry to add this song that I didn’t read the other comments 🤣🙃!

Inspired choice of songs, Dan! Plus, thank you for adding thoughtful commentary, notes, and info for the songs! We've got more than enough drop-'em-'n'-run playlist compilers in the neighborhood....it's nice to have some creative writing to go with!

So many of these I'd never heard before ("Philomena" for one, "Cosmic Slop," which I had only heard OF...that's a title that's hard to forget, or Groep 1850!). Mott, Kinks, Cheap Trick, of course, were all ones I previously owned, and was very familiar with! I don't think I'd-a thought of "Surrender," which again, is what makes your list so well thought-out...and "Midnight Special" perf?👍

Yeah - that "Midnight Special" performance really captures everything that was great about Cheap Trick in their prime. Glad to be able to turn you on to a few of these!

And don't forget the wonderful "Nobody Loves Me But My Mother (And She Might Be Jivin' Me, Too) by B.B. King from 1971.
