YES YES YES YES!!!! Holy shit I love "Everybody's Gotta Live," and had it on my Apple Music playlists for the past year for a moment like this. While I do my best to advocate for the tunes I love at Marshall Arts, I can't imagine a better voice for it than you, Dan.
It's good to see 'Vindicator' receiving some "love." Usually when Love is written about it is FC, or side one of Da Capo. I remember when the unreleased tapes of 'Black Beauty' were the holy grail and I managed to snag a Maxell XLII of it from a collector buddy (not Mike Stax, but a friend of Mike's). The vinyl pressing that came out about ten years ago was also nicely done. Both it (BB) and 'Vindicator' provides a glimpse into the story of Arthur during this darker, funkier, and creative time that many overlook.
Agreed — even the weaker albums he and/or Love put out had some incredible songs. And tomorrow's CROSSED CHANNELS episode deals largely with Four Sail, an album that has really only begun to get its true due in the last couple of decades...
When I first heard the oozing, blistering, lava-like guitar freakout of "August," I knew 'Four Sail' was an entirely different beast than anything before it.
Indeed! I had been suffering under the handed-down misconception that “nothing after Forever Changes is worth picking up” — but as soon as I put the needle down on “August,” I knew I’d been lied to!
The only one I didn't like as much was 'False Start' (despite Jimi appearing).' A few years ago, both 'FS' and 'Reel to Real' ended up being purged. I don't regret 'FS,' but I sometimes wish I had held on to 'RtoR.' Pretty easy to find, but the price tag has definitely soared for both.
I'm kinda the opposite — I regret purging False Start (if only for that ripping live version of "Stand Out"), but never really bonded with "Reel to Real"...
Serendipity! Coincidence! Statistical likelihood! Regardless, while "Love jumped through my window Sunday afternoon" doesn't scan quite so while, it's a beautiful thing. And two more great songs from a canon I'm glad you've been encouraging me to explore further. I imagine Arthur had a wink and a nod and a wry smile every time he sang about Love, and especially when he put it into a song title. And the song title, and what's going on (hmm, another song title there perhaps?) got me thinking of "Oilwell" b y Carbon/Silicon, the Mick Jones/Tony James project we didn't mention in our Sandinista! episode of Crossed Channels, and this chorus, after which the last line repeats:
No need to apologize, as I actually enjoyed the quick trip back in time. My older sister was “somewhat” of a folkie, so I heard all of that music back in my youth. WHERE have all the flowers gone!

Such a great song — and too often overlooked because it wasn’t done under the Love name!
100% agreed.
First heard this tune in Taika Waititi's Jojo Rabbit. What a jam...
I understand!

A new post about Love to start my day! Thanks Dan, I’m always in better spirits after reading one of your posts.
Thanks, Chris — knowing that JTL improves your day makes me feel better, too!

"Let's take all the money and all of the waste
And shoot the whole lot into outer space
And try to make a humanitarian case
For dropping some love on the human race."
Peace. And Love.
Nice post. And I don’t think I’ve even heard the title of this one since the days of LBJ!

I apologize for reminding you of it, haha...

Great one, Dan. Fun to imagine Arthur being a jerk to Herb - like walking out on a lunch at Ben Frank’s.
Hahaha, totally!
Brought me to tears. You know the reason why. 🤷🏼❤️
