What a story. I am not certain John ever saw this movie or knew much about Orville S, but....Mark Harris' novel BTDS was one of his very favorites of all time. He introduced me to it and to the original "Bank the Drum Slowly" song which he played and sang on the guitar and brought me to tears every single time.....and does now. The novel is beautifully written. I hope you have read it, or will. It sounds like Orville's song was perfect for the movie. T
John Hancock lives in my little town of Three Oaks, MI. He's most known for making the only movie set in said town called "Prancer" in 1989. Great guy. Thanks for the memory jog on this beautiful film, Dan and for allowing Stoeber's 1971 release "Songs" to be crackling through my speakers this morning.
Thanks so much Dan
Right on, Steven.
Sorry for your loss. Great essay. I am definitely going to check out those album recommendations.
Thanks, Taz!

Beautiful story..... it's been so long since I saw the movie and I don't think I saw all of it somehow. I have to fix this!
You'll love it, man!
