That is a seriously deep dive, Dan! I won't confess to how few of these songs I knew, and there are some great ones I am now in the midst of discovering.
Some great songs here! I only knew "The Witch" by The Sonics and "Season of the Witch" the Donovan version. I've been walking around the house singing the two words "Witchfinder General" after hearing the Carl Douglas song. Don't know how obscure this is, but "Marie Laveau" by Bobby Bare is a pretty good witch song
Dan - outstanding list, as always. I'm a fool for true ghost stories too - "In Search Of" was the jam back in the 1970s. There are a great deal of "true" ghost story podcasts, but most are really quite lame - except for this one, from the BBC (who know a thing or two about ghosts).
I found Uncanny a bit of a slog, actually. The stories are good, and Danny Robins is a solid presenter, but the part in every episode where they bring in the "experts" to discuss the story becomes painfully predictable after a couple of listens; the believers always believe, and the skeptics always say that this was just a case of sleep paralysis or hallucinations from radon fumes, etc. I far prefer this one, which strikes a nice balance of listener submissions (she even read one of mine) and ghostly legends, as well as the occasional forays into cryptid territory. Plus, the host doesn't try to "spooky" it up, and she has a rather straight-forward Irish delivery that I find very endearing: https://www.reallifeghoststoriespodcast.com
Woo-ooo witchee-woman, she got the moon in her eye-eye-eye🧙
Almost included that one just for the nostalgia factor!
YES! Love, love this post 🎃 Here's a mix I made many years ago. It holds up! https://www.mixcloud.com/Suggadelic/graveyard-shuffe-a-rockcast-in-honor-of-october-2012/
This is great, brother!
Old Lady Sloan by Mortal Micronotz. William S Burroughs wrote the lyrics
Oh wow - I don’t know that one. Thanks for the tip!
And...well...shamelessly, here is a song about hairy spiders in leisure suits! https://brittapejic.bandcamp.com/track/spiders-on-the-dancefloor
It’s a Halloween hit!!!
(And Wicked Annabella is sooooooo SPEWKY!!)
Did we include it in our rundown of trippy Kinks songs a few weeks back? Because if not, we should have!
That’s right. The psychedelic Kinks discussion. I think this song kid of qualifies

Right on, Tony! Enjoy!
“Sue Egypt” by Captain Beefheart. Sometimes I’ll play it just to see if it scares me as much as it did the first time I heard it. It does, every time.
Good call!
I would like to suggest “Straight To Hell” - The Clash and “Nightmare Girl” - Aimee Mann.
Excellent suggestions!

Oh yeah, that's a great one — can't believe I forgot about "Marie Laveau"!

Well, now I gotta hear that.
