I recommend you do, Gary! But I am biased because I love the band. If I were to recommend where to start, I would suggest 'The Family That Plays Together.' I think, if pressed, if I had to keep just one of their first four LPs, it would be this one.
I love me some Spirit and Randy (especially their first four albums)! For me, he is one of the great unsung guitarists (and stepdad, Ed Cassidy, one of the greatest, but all too often, overlooked drummers)! And, of course, who doesn't love Dennis Coffey?
I think, for me, the band(s) that have never registered and that often raise eyebrows are The Beach Boys (Pet Sounds does zero for me) and Queen. I have respect, their music does zero for me. Like you with Spirit, however, I have tried. But, after decades of trying, I am now at peace with it.
Sticking to the point of astrology, however, standing on an island at the temple of Pachamama in Lake Titicaca and hiking through the Sacred Valley of Peru, there is a sense of awe that an ancient civilization with compartively, no science or technology, completely unlocked many of the secrets of the stars and constellations, not just spiritually but also for their own survival (agriculture, seasons, etc.).
As a fellow Taurus, I love this so much! But don’t sleep on Harvey Sid Fisher, one of the top 10,000 male models in the greater LA area, at least back when this … um… one-of-a-kind Zodiac album came out. Happy Birthday! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QLfe3dBb69k
"hit of Herb..." most excellent. And All Them Witches! Great band that I saw at The Cain's a few years back, I thought I was the only person who knew of them. Truly original with a unique sound.
Absolutely love it as a fellow member of Team Taurus! I frequently remind non-Taureans that stubbornness and patience are two sides of the same coin. (Also that we exhibit stubbornness in knowing that we're right, and patience in waiting for everyone else to catch on!)
Great recommendations - and alarming how few I know given that I am indeed a bull. Did you do research into how many of the artists here are Tauruses by the way? Or is that Tauri or Tauria? Either way, cheers birthday man!
While being more into astronomy than astrology, the Libra scales of balance dictate that your Taurus Tunes deserve a fair hearing. Killer Mingus tune man, I had never heard - thanks! Same goes for excellent Nat jam, and what a story on Mike Deasy, I had no idea, he went to the other side, and then he went to the other side.
Proud to be among the Taurus club, brother! And while I enjoyed this entire post - as usual - the great revelation here was All Them Witches! Killer track!
I think I need to give Spirit another shot as well because they did nothing for me over a few listens. 😵
I've been trying since the late eighties...

Thanks Michael, I will do just that.
Good comp - "Time Circle (1968-1972)"
#13 to sum it all up: Bulls on Parade!

Hahaha! I had some interesting encounters with HSF back in LA in the mid-90s…

Mom to two Taurean women. Boy, did we ever fight!
Don't forget Mike Oldfield's "Taurus 1" (on QE2) and "Taurus II" on Five Miles out. The latter is one of my favorite pieces of music.
Love this ATW my new favorite band!
Right on!
Cool list! I'll give it a listen.

Hahaha - well said!

I did - and surprisingly few of them were born under our sign!

The OTHER other side, haha!
I love Deasy's comment on playing rock and roll unlike a lot of schooled typical studio pros; "I actually liked playing rock and roll."

Such a great band — definitely worthy of further exploration!
