Happy Thanksgiving, Dan! I’m so sorry to hear about Otis… But I am comforted that Angus is as cute as can be, and is keeping you company. I loved reading everything that you’re grateful for this year… It’s inspiring as well as moving. Thank you for all that you do to keep us informed and highly entertained. I look forward to another fruitful year of Jagged Time Lapse! Love the cover art too! Cheers to you and yours... 🥂
This is such a beautiful post, Dan. All the best for your continued good health into the future. I managed to lose a substantial amount of weight over the past 18 months, so I know it’s not easy!
Thank you for mentioning my writing. I never expected to find a community of supportive, brilliant music writers here on @Substack, and thank you for the contribution to make to growing the love of music. It matters.
Wow, Dan, thank you so much for the mention. It’s truly an honor, especially because I’ve long been a fan of your work.
Congratulations on the weight loss. I nearly died 3 years ago, and while that was not directly caused by my weight, it did not help. I have since lost over 50 pounds and it has not been easy but oh has it been worth it.
I’m sorry for all you’ve been through this year (I was really touched by what you wrote this week about Otis) but I hope you know that we’re all out here and truly appreciate you and you’re great work. Happy Thanksgiving.
Hi Dan, not only am I humbled that your post mentioned me up top of the list of writers, but am Grateful and Thankful you wrote something like this in the first place, as, quite selfishly, now I don't have to - because I can't top it. Seriously, I was planning on a Gratitude-themed Midweek Update but got swamped with podcast editing and figured the world would be fine without my thoughts for a few days. Yours capture it for many of us - not just the ageing process and losing our life companions, but also losing pounds, and gaining life companions along the way. The freelance media business for us "creatives" - if we may be so bold - does indeed suck, and like you, I'm trusting that Substack can help change that with the old-fashioned process of direct patronization. I can't keep up with all the wonderful writers whose words land in my Inbox but every day but it's a better problem to have than being triggered on the X-Twitter and I always make a beeline for JTL. Take care, have a great Dia de Acción de Gracias, and ... hey, we should do something together!
Thanks so much, Dan! It was fun seeing my name on such an impressive list...and, toward the top, at that! I know it's not a ranking, but this Thanksgiving, I'm giving myself permission to....well, as the old song goes: 🎶"I can dream, can't I?"🎵
And, for that delish pre-turkey appetizer, may I invite you to a friendly parlor game of a little thing we like to call Tune Tag? Just e-mail me a song, any artist/genre/era, and I'll reply with brief info and my first song! I think both our reader bases would be clamoring for that cage match! Thanks again, and may your Thanksgiving be serene and full of nap-inducing tryptophan!🦃🎩
Thanks for the mention, Dan. In addition to being an occasional source of musical inspiration, JTL is definitely one of my favorite music publications round these parts- and that is saying A TON. Thanks for what you do and Happy Turkey!
OH. and I like the groovy track. Very smooth. There's an open offer to join Labelabel if you are ever interested. It offers no "tangible benefits", but what good are tangible benefits anyways!?
Thank you for the mention Dan. Enjoyed your post - your positivity is infectious!

Dude. Love this update.
RIP Otis, long live Angus.
Love the new track! Is that a mellotron ?
Let's go for a hike, I also need to lose some weight.
Love you !

Aw, brother, that would make me so happy — come on up!
(And thank you — it's not a mellotron, but an incredible simulation!)

Happy Thanksgiving, Dan. I appreciate the shout out. Your column has become one of my favorites. It frequently shifts my perspective on songs.
Thank you, Dan, for including me on your list of writers and my best wishes for a blessed Thanksgiving. It's a beautiful community we have here.
