are. This column and your visit to NYC brought to mind a book title from a half-century ago—“What do people do all day?” What was Dan thinking then? What is he thinking now? The benefit of being a subscriber!
Probably the only text I ever made money on was co-edited by me and 3 others. It took almost no work but the title (which I came up with) was inspired by that book. “What do Social Workers do?” Adding “All Day?” would have sounded disrespectful. The four of us co-editors shared royalties for 4 years. They bought your “Snow White and Fried Shrimp” dinner at Mr. Steak.
Thank you so much for the write up on this song and George Benson's cover. I have long wondered why he covered this excellent song. I think I realized that others covered it, but it was his version that sent me down a rabbit hole of Psych Jazz. Not to be confused with Acid Jazz. Well done, Dan!
Wild, man! I've seen this LP while crate digging over the years but honestly never in a million years thought it was the Max Frost & the Troopers tune! Gotta pick this up next time it appears!
I know, right? I just figured that the title was a comment on the talent of an up and coming guitarist. The whole album is really great, but I do kinda wish Benson had recorded more freaky shit like this track!
There’s something about the classic “Dave Hill Haircut” that I just can’t get enough of!

Few dared to duplicate it!
Yeah! I was happy to find out he’s still out there getting it done:

Man, I loved that Richard Scarry book...

Right on, Seth! Thanks for reading!
Never heard the original before but I loved it! And the Slade and George Benson versions as well!!
Sweet! That's what I'm here for!

Another gem all around as well as revelations, this song was not on my radar at all, thanks.
Very cool - happy to spread the Shape of Things to Come love!
