Great little elegy for the man I loved to hate in 1975, and sad headline from the Smokies. Thanks, and thanks.

"Headfirst into the Hereafter" was worth the price of admission alone.

Do my eyes and ears deceive me, or is that age-appropriate woman Betty Buckley?

Is it? I’m not familiar enough with her to make that call…

Here’s a clip from Carrie.

Further research indicates that it is indeed Ms. Buckley in that AV ad. Good eye!

God I hope NC doesn't go red again....talk about voting against your best interests. Yikes. It's unconscious nihilism.

Great write up, Dan. Very funny and creative. I love those 70's baseball commercials!

Thanks, my man. Yeah, I’m hoping that the whole Mark Robinson “Black Nazi” deal will be a drag on the GOP in NC this Nov, but who knows?

If you replaced Rose's name in the 5th paragraph with a certain presidential candidate, it would still be a perfect description.

Yes, much love and help, if you can, to Western NC, a truly special area.

Met fans here, so Pete Rose will always be remembered by me as the guy who fought Buddy Harrelson.

Does anyone remember Gene Garber's delivery? It sure was funky!

Oh yeah - I loved watching Garber pitch!

Tiant-esque in his motion.

"Well, he was hitting like it was the 7th game of the WS", was Garber's comeback to Rose's comment.

Exactly.

Great piece, Dan. When they shouted "NO!" in the AV commercial, my thoughts immediately went to Twisted Sister's "We're Not Gonna Take It" video. Thanks for the shout-out for those in need in NC, horrible tragedy.

That’s a mash-up that definitely needs to happen!

Best Rose tribute! I feel you on even watching ballgames (of all kinds) anymore. One nice little surprise, I randomly found the Tiger's playoff games on the Spanish broadcast station here in LA, a low-budget, thankfully graphic-light presentation, they talk too fast for me to pickup much of the Spanish commentary but they were genuinely having fun in the both instead of analyzing things to death and having 'reporters' all over and on and off the field - more fun to me than network broadcast USA circus.

Thanks also for the sad report on NC, crazy up in the mountains like that.
