Happy Saturday, beautiful Jagged Time Lapse subscribers!
Back when I first launched this thing, I promised that I would occasionally post a poll that would give my paid subscribers some input into what I write about in upcoming newsletters. Well, I’ve got a whole stack of ideas in the pipeline right now, but I’m not really sure which one to dig into next, and I haven’t done a JTL poll since back in March. So hey, paid subscribers — what’s your pleasure?
For the second JTL subscribers poll, I’m once again rolling out five vastly different subjects to choose from:
1. There’s the time my high school friends and I waited out all night in the none-too-safe environs of Chicago’s Loop for tickets to Bruce Springsteen’s Born in the USA tour.
2. Flash forward two decades, and there’s the time I kinda-sorta stole tickets to Motley Crue’s Carnival of Sins tour from a member of Hoobastank.
3. There’s the time I hung out for hours at a Brentwood deli with Gene Simmons of KISS, talking about his band, his bass playing, his love of ‘60s pop and his fear of Satanic pastries.
4. There’s the first album I ever bought — hint: it was a foreign import from a US artist — which certainly warrants a chapter in the in-progress musical memoir of my adolescence.
5. Also in that memoir will be a chapter about why I still somehow associate Spyro Gyra’s 1979 smooth-jazz hit “Morning Dance” with the first haircut — and the lone headlice scare — of my teen years.
So… which one’s it gonna be?
Paid subscribers have until Tuesday morning to “Voice Your Choice,” as The Radiants once sang. And if you’re currently a free subscriber who wants in on the action, I’m celebrating the one-year anniversary of this Substack by offering 10% off annual paid subscriptions to all new subscribers. Subscribe by September 15, and you’ll get all kinds of fun and exclusive reads from me in your email box for 12 months for just $45… as well as be “registered” to vote in polls like these! Such a deal!
