Very cool that the two clips were shot during the same weekend. Oh and when I was six and before I could even barely ready, I was able to tell my Rolling Stones albums apart by the shade of blue on their London label. Let it Bleed was a royal blue. Aftermath was more of a midnight blue. However, Satanic Majesties was between the two shades of blue AND it had all the scratches. I think it was because I played “Citadel” over and over. I rediscovered that song years later when I heard it playing in a store in Harvard Sq. In the mid eighties. I had to go back and figure out which album it was on. It took a while, but it was indeed one that was in such bad condition, it had a high pitched wheeze on it! Bad for tape compilations.

"Citadel" was a total revelation for me, too — great Brian Jones sax on that one, as well!

Right!!! It’s fun to try to pick out all the instruments. What is making the “ding” sound? A Celeste? A guitar chime? Is that a saxophone? Is it an oboe? Brian could play everything.

Oh, also, (and never wanting to call anyone’s Stone’s acumen into question), if you listen to “In another land”, you can hear Steve Marriott singing back up. But you knew this already ☺️

Just another one of the many reasons that Satanic Majesties is way cooler than critics gave it credit for being!

Thanks for showing the Michael Lyndsay-Hogg clip. Now, if only the Sir Denis Eaton-Hogg video would resurface....

So cool, right?

I always love that kind of stuff. I haven't met as many rock stars, but they almost always are actually just normal people (as much as they can be).

Brian was a very complex character, but I've heard and read that he definitely had a sweet, charming and humble side despite his many demons.

Dan, you live in the 'gunks? I envy you! Left Plattekill some years ago, and miss it much. Used to blast '60s music and not disturb the neighbors...

I do! I relocated to Kerhonkson last December. I do have an upstairs neighbor (my landlord), but he doesn't seem to mind my music as long as all blasting ceases by 9 pm!
